On the morning of Saturday 7th April the much anticipated 110th Warwickshire Mark Lodge of Instruction Festival took place at Alderson House after the snow laden ‘Beast from the East’ thwarted the intended date. Over 75 Brethren gathered for a hearty breakfast enjoyed by all due to the sterling efforts of Peter Round. At this point I must mention that Peter lost his Mum suddenly that morning and our most sincere condolences are with him and his family on their loss.
Breakfast gave the opportunity for mingling and chatting in anticipation of a fine display by the team who have laboured long and hard under the watchful eye of Preceptor, W.Bro.Tony Ball our current Provincial Grand Senior Warden.
So with full stomachs and a warm glow we all congregated in the Temple for a prompt kick off under the Presidency of V.W.Bro.Ghanshyam Maganbai Patel, PGJO and Past Deputy Provincial Grand Master of our neighbouring Province of Leicestershire and Rutland.
The 2018 team put on a delightful demonstration of the Ceremony of Advancement much to the delight of the assembled Brethren with the Chair work being shared by no less than 4 of them! It’s hard to single out the contributions when it comes to a truly team effort that exemplifies the importance of the beautiful ceremonial of the Mark Degree. It clearly illustrated the benefit of hard work and plenty of practice taking us back to the days when a ritual book was scarcely to be seen in the Lodge room. What makes our Province special is the addition of the chants that involve all present as a wonderful bond and of course, our Provincial Grand Organist, W.Bro.Mike Grillage always adds humour as well as dignity to the occasion. And who could overlook the candidate? Brother Ashly Bragg was only recently Advanced i to the Shakespeare Lodge of Mark Master Masons No.40TI last month so his reprise was still very fresh.
The Festival President concluded the meeting with some helpful comments and praise. He outlined the differences between hi home Province and the embellishments in ours. He was thanked by the Provincial Grand Master and presented with a gift by our Provincial Grand Junior Warden, W.Bro.David Evans as a ‘Thank You’ from us all. Once again, huge congratulations from all of us in the Province of Warwickshire to the Preceptor W.Bro Tony Ball who will be honoured at the June meeting of Grand Lodge by appointment to the rank of Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies and certainly not ‘No.2’ on this occasion!
