A Grand Day Out: Celebrating Brotherhood and Legacy

The atmosphere was vibrant, a kaleidoscope of familiar faces and fraternal warmth that defined the meeting as both “normal” and exceptionally “happy.” While the routine of the craft provided a steady pulse, the day was elevated by a profound sense of shared history and the light-hearted ribbing that cements lifelong bonds.

A significant highlight was the Deputy Grand Master’s (DepGM) fitting and poignant tribute to M.W. Bro John Prizeman. His words captured the essence of a leader held in high esteem, ensuring the legacy of M. W. Bro. Prizeman was honoured with the dignity and respect it truly deserved.

However, the solemnity of the tribute was balanced by a delightful dive into the archives of personal memory. The DepGM regaled the brethren with a story from a meeting at Lodge 1400, back when he served as the candidate. He vividly described the “glee” the Assistant Grand Master (AGM) took in rejecting his ritual work—a moment of humility that clearly still brings a smile to those involved.

The nostalgia continued into the Festive Board, where the Past Deputy Provincial Grand Master (Past DepPGM), while proposing the toast to the current DepPGM, revisited that same legendary 1400 meeting. It is rare for a single event to leave such a lasting mark, and the repeated mentions served as a testament to the enduring character of those involved.

The Province of Warwickshire was out in full force, boasting a strong representation both in the lodge room and at the dinner table. Their presence added to the robust spirit of the occasion, reinforcing the ties between Provinces.

By the time the final toast was called, the consensus was unanimous: from the heartfelt tributes to the shared laughter over old “failures,” it was, in every sense, a Grand day out.
